I’m quite happy with my Samsung Galaxy Ace. However, the internal memory storage (‘phone memory’) is very limited. A few apps like Facebook, Twitter, Whatsapp and the phone starts to complain about ‘insufficient memory’. But I have a 16GB microSD card?? And still not enough memory?? That is because apps will install themselves in the precious ‘phone memory’ (limited to 181 MB). Which is logical if you think of the situation where you have no SD card in the phone. You can still use that phone, with apps, but only a handfull of apps can be installed before the ‘phone memory’ is full.
The problem can be solved by adding a SD card and moving your apps from the internal ‘phone memory’ to the external SD storage. This ‘moving’ can be done with apps like App 2 SD. A good and free app, however it (and many similar apps) wont move all apps to SD. Some, like Whatsapp, Twitter, Facebook, etc. are just not moveable. Weird! So, what about an app which will let you move ALL (user) apps from ‘phone memory’ to SD memory? Does such an app exist?
I have googled around and yesterday I have found that app. It is Link2SD (also free). There is a catch because this app requires your phone to be rooted. Luckily ‘rooting’ is not too difficult. Find multiple method/ways to ‘root’ your smartphone, see how to root galaxy ace. (Edit oct 13th, 2013: But sometimes the forces are against you. I tried to root the Ace of my stepfather, but it stubbornly refused to work, and always came with the error “There is no SU binary installed, and superSU cannot install it. This is a problem!”. Made me crazy. Nearly gave up. But with my zillionst search I did hit on a post from a guy named Vaivai www.phonandroid.com/forum/rooter-son-samsung-galaxy-ace-gt-s5839i-t22391.html and in his tutorial he spoke of UNROOT first. It is what I tried and now it worked. So take note if you have trouble rooting your device with said error message … try to unroot first). You also need to have a second partition on your SD memory card. This is where Link2SD will store/move the apps. Link2SD is a fantastic little app and did everything I have wished for. Highly recommended!

I have read in numerous forums that people are facing the internal memory problem. All the apps store their data/lib files/apk file in the internal memory. Over the period of use, the memory gets full and user has no clue why since he hasn’t installed that many apps/games.
Well, I am no different and suffered the same. I tried various techniques includes Link2SD but the data still gets stored in the internal memory even though the apk is stored in the SD Card.

Does this work on official Samsung ROM? or only on custom ROMs?
The app works on official SAMSUNG rom, but for best results (more apps moveable) you have to root it. NO custom rom needed though;)
what does it mean to root?
Root(ing) is like opening the ‘hood’ of your car so you can tinker with the engine. Normal users don’t need this, but when you want to perform special things you need ‘root access’ (like you need to open the hood of a car to tweak the engine). Of course you may root, it is YOUR smartphone. But, in general, you lose your warranty, which is normal.
For a tech interested person, rooting is not too difficult. But for a strict layman (without any tech abilities/afinity) this stuff can be baffling. Beter leave it, or to be done by some ‘smart’ person in your friends/family.

I rooted my phone, everything was going great until a couple months ago. Even if I moved most of my apps to the SD memory, I keep getting the low memory warning all the time. I uninstalled a lot of updates trying to get some space but what the hell is going on? I have less and less space everyday and it’s just annoying! I spend most of my day erasing data and can only use 2 apps at the same time. I can’t use facebook anymore.
Is there anything else I can do? I am quite desperate. At this rate my phone will be useless and I still have until sept to finish the contract with the service provider :(
Hi, I had the same problem! (just some weeks ago). What probably is the case (it was with me) is that your SD memory card does NOT have a second partition. It needs this second partition to store/move all the apps to SD. To check if you have set this goto LINK2SD > menu > Storage info (and the 3rd entry is the 2nd partition)

When solving this problem I found a good link on the web http://www.noypigeeks.com/android/tutorial-a-guide-to-link2sd/ … Anyway, in short, you need to create a second partition on the SD card and fiddle a bit so that LINK2SD uses this 2nd partition. It was a bit of a hassle. Iirc I ended up creating a ‘ext3’ 2nd partition. … Hmmm, anyway it works now!

Hello, i also had the same problem. what worked for me however was really simple, i just downloaded the app file on pc, and transferred it to my phone via sd card. I installed it straight from there, and it didnt show the storage message. I basically avoided using google play to download. Hope this works!

I tried formatting and partitioning whilst my card was in my phone because I don’t have a separate micro sd card reader. Unfortunately after trying different combinations, the phone always end up saying that the sd card is damaged and that I need to reformat. Do you think the separate card reader would be the solution to my problem?
Found a way to achieve partitioning without the need for Minitool Partition Wizard. You actually just need to install CWM recovery and create a partition from there (by going into the Advanced Menu). A much simple and quicker process to be honest.
Just Tried And Worked For Me but after i Moved Most Of The apps And Emptied My Internal Memory .. all my apps went away :/ i mean they were in the 2nd partition i think and now link2SD Says 2nd Partition Unmounted ..

After rooting the phone and partitioning the SD card and installing Link2sd, do I then need to uninstall any apps already installed and then re-install them ?
Iirc, NO … I don’t recall the rooting to destroy your environment. And I’m sure that you can (re)partition the SD card and use Link2SD without losing your environment (If you do it the right way). So … no.
(If however you want to put a custom rom, you will loose everthing is my experience)

Hey great advice,everything went according to plan and works sweet BUT one thing,my internal mem is 79 mb,i have galaxy ace and when i try and get an app thats 44 mb it says not enough mem,delete items from internal mem or change installations settings to sd yet they already are! Any ideas??

Yeah already done that in settings and does work for everyother app thats about 15mb they go straight to sd but not for this app thats 44mb even tho theres enough internal memory!!!

2. Select/Click “Copy to SD”..
( this will copy all dump files from internal to SD Card, because all dump files consumes large amount of internal memory) Note: Only Select the “Copy to SD” Be carefull…

Hi after moving to SD card my internal memory free space increased from 17mb free to 48mb free and all apps still work.First time i tried this i forgot to put the * in so did not open SysDump once open look for (copy to SD card) after dump scroll down to exit
