FREE LION 88: Between August and November 1988, NATO conducted a total of 67 larger exercises. The majority of these exercises were conducted on the territory of West Germany, and the greatest troop concentration took place in September 1988. Some 385,000 troops with 2,600 MBTs and 1,160 helicopters trained simultaneously. Among other forces, no less than five corps were fielded. From 19-23 September 1988, the 1st (NL) Corps conducted its last corps-level FTX named Free Lion 88. A total of 44,000 troops took part in the exercise, including soldiers from the Netherlands, from West Germany, from the USA and from the United Kingdom. A total of 12,510 wheeled and 1,700 tracked vehicles (including 420 main battle tanks) as well as 145 helicopters, deployed with the troops.

Feyenoord – Sevilla (fighting spirit)

Boy, did I enjoy the fine win of Feyenoord over Sevilla last thursday nov 27, 2014. With one eye I watched the game like everybody else. But the other eye I kept on the totality of the game, the teams, the team spirit. Finer details always give away how a team performs. Here I show one of those finer details. The fighting spirit of Feyenoord defending the precious 1 – 0 lead. Mid fielders and defenders dive in, trying to block a possible dangerous shot on goal. The way the players dive in shows the amount of fighting spirit the team has. You can see the fighting spirit is there. That is good, because fighting spirit is one of the essential elements to perform well, to act as a team. Fighting spirit can’t be bought with money. A saving grace for the beautiful soccer game, which seems to be over-dominated by the money aspect

Het verhaal van de lepeltjes (Sinterklaasgedicht)

GiftHet verhaal van de lepeltjes

Zijn er nog lepeltjes
voor in de vla?

Ik zou het niet weten
Kijk in de la

Maar de la is leeg
Geen lepel te zien

Hoe moet dat nu verder
Weet de Sint het misschien?

Jazeker, zei Piet
want je moet je bedenken

Dat de Sint al een hele tijd
niet wist wat te schenken

Zo komt het gebrek
van lepels voor vla

De Sint erg goed uit
Want die zond Piet aldra

Op weg naar de Xenos
om snel te gaan kopen

Lepels voor vla
En daarbij te hopen

Dat, ook voor de thee
met suiker gezoet

Een lepel van Xenos
ruimschoots voldoet

Een setje van zes
lepels voor vla

Doe ze vanavond
maar snel in de la

Groetjes,
Sint en Piet
